Rando's

  • The DVR deleted every episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Thank God for DVDs, but it's just not as convenient as having a 100+ recordings at your fingertips.

  • We close on our casa tomorrow and I still haven't nailed down paint colors. I'm thinking I'll make a game time decision on my lunch break today for the couple areas I have in mind and get some testers for a few others.

  • One thing we have bought? Chalkboard paint. :)

  • My mom is flying in to help us next Thursday-Monday and I couldn't be more excited. Everytime someone is on the phone, Grace says "Nana", so chances are she's going to be pretty pumped, too.

  • I skipped CrossFit in favor of Mexican last night. Sometimes you just need a Sangria and some chips and salsa to get through a stressful week.

  • Grace woke up at 3:30am this morning screaming for a "baba" (sippy). We gave in and got her one and she decided she was so happy that she should laugh, chat about doggies, and kick me in the ribs for 30 minutes. FML. I put her back in her crib and she slept till 8:30- now that was awesome.

  • I've been housing veggie/hummus wraps for lunch all week and I'm addicted. In the mix? Garlic hummus, sharp cheddar (the cheese makes it!), cucumbers, tomato, red onion, avocado, and a heathly dash of S&P on a whole wheat wrap. I'd take a pic, but I seriously scarf it down in record time.

  • Because posts without pictures are boring, I leave you with:
We're getting there. I WILL have a waterbaby by the end of Summer. :)

"If you're having rug problems, I feel bad for you son..."

"I got 99 problems, but a rug ain't one."

This wins the most hilarious email subject line from yesterday. Thanks for your input, everyone! You will be pleased to know that the rug saga is over...for now...and I'll reveal what I decided after we move.

Ohhh, the suspense. ;)

Not much to chat about today. Just trying to make it to 3:30 so I can get my butt to CrossFit. Only 3 more workouts left with my little group and it's all sorts of sad. Not sure what I'm going to do when we move. I know that I will join a gym because I need my spin and bootcamp classes...as well as an excuse to get out of the house. When you work at home all day, getting out, even for a workout is necessary. As for CrossFit workouts, I think I'm going to attempt to do things on my own, in the garage, and hitting up the local high school for their bleachers and track. I've learned so much in past 6 months and plan on continuing with WODs that I don't need a ton of equipment to do.

So today's question of the day (or QOD? ha...) is: Anyone have a favorite xfit workout that can be done at home or in a garage? Any tips on what equipment I need to add to our garage "gym" area? A box, for example...

Design Dilemmas

Hey, friends. :)

Hope your Monday's are off to a great start. Mine wasn't too bad thanks to a quick Starbucks run when I noticed that we were out of my favorite Half-Caf K-Cups. Had to get a quick treat to save what could have been a disastrous morning. Now it's back to the daily grind and wrapping up some house things before we close this FRIDAY. Who knew I could have so much fun scheduling blind installation and ordering a refrigerator. D may have snuck a new flat screen into the order...so needless to say, there is happiness all around...at least until we have to start writing checks to everyone. I may need a xanax Friday. (Kidding.)

The most exciting part of this whole home owning process, for me, is the prospect of getting to finally paint walls and hang pictures and do all of those homey things we have put off in rentals. I pour over magazines and pinterest and am trying to prioritize things so that D doesn't have a heart attack.

First thing on the agenda? Paint. I plan on getting a head start this weekend when we camp out air mattress style after closing. (We don't officially move until next week.)

Then come curtains, and accessories. Wanna help me out with my latest design dilemma? Great, you guys are the best. ;)

So our family room is now going to have wood floor, which means we need a rug. It's the heart of the home and where we spend the most time, and just the fact that we have a toddler basically requires something there, and fast.

Here is our current couch and throw pillows. We also have a dark leather recliner. I want to keep things cool and will probably leave the builder beige on our new walls until I'm 1,000% sure of a new color. Momma's been known to changer her mind and Daddy doesn't appreciate it. I also probably should have fluffed pillows and prettied it up, but guess what...I didn't.

Anyways, a few days ago I found a rug and fell in love. I thought it was the perfect combination of comtemporary and traditional. Something I wouldn't get sick of after a couple of months. It also helped that it was on super sale.

Rugs USA Homespun Moroccan Trellis Charcoal Rug

D agreed to it...and then disaster struck. The mother f-er sold out. That's how heated I am about this rug. UGH. It's an 8-12 week wait to see if it MAYBE restocks.

It's pretty tan brother is still in stock, as of now:

Rugs USA Homespun Moroccan Trellis Charcoal Rug

But I'm worried that will really make the room bland. You know, beige walls and I was planning on a light curtain. Something like, oh, I don't know (yes, yes I do)...these:

Alternate View

Finally, there is the game changer. A rug I've been eyeing since literally before we moved into this house. It's definitely not super trendy, but I think the colors work and it is thicker, which is always nice when you have kiddos running around on it:

What's the problem now? There are varying reviews on what color it actually comes in...and proof. Two different looking pictures. Honestly either might work...but I prefer the one below:

So, now what:

1. Do I wait 2-3 months to see if the first option restocks?
2. Do I order the Tan version?
3. Or finally, do I take a chance on option 3 and see what she looks like in person?

Help a sister out. These are the decisions that are keeping me up at night. Rough life, I know. Also you need to tell be by tonight before super sale ends on option 2. Bonus points if you can tell me what color I should paint the walls. Thank youuuu. :)

I survived.

Hey-o! The end of the week is fast approaching and I am all sorts of ready for it to get here. Bring on a quicky road trip to see our new casa and my granite that better be installed! Woo hoo!

Remember this WOD from yesterday?

It was rough, but I finished. It took me 41 minutes and some change...and the end was not pretty. I had to break my burpees down into sets of 10 and try not to puke in between them. Let's just say I wasn't a pretty sight. Ever have those workouts where you are driving home and literally contemplate pulling over because you feel so drained?! That happened. I pulled into the Shopette (just your basic on post gas station convenience store) and got another water and a bag of jelly beans for a quick sugar rush. It got me thinking about making sure I'm hydrated AND fueled better before long workouts. I hate to eat too close to Crossfit sessions because I go hard and am not the kind of person that can have much in their stomach and have an effective workout. I'm the same way with running, but on my long runs (like marathon training distance), I would pack shot blocks to make sure I had something to keep myself going.

One thing I love about CrossFit is that I get that same amazing, got my butt kicked, totally gave it my all feeling after less than an hour of working out, as opposed to marathon training and feeling that way after 3+ hours and 21 freakin' miles. It's insane.

(And no, it wouldn't take me 21 miles to feel DONE running these days...haha)

I figured I'd ask...what do you all use for workout fuel? Anyone have that "thing" that they have to eat prior to a workout to have a great run/lifting/crossfit session? Anyone like me and need a sugar rush to make it through!? Spill!

Also, tonight we are meeting outside in a stadium on post. It is crazy hot out...and I'm SO pumped. :)

Midweek happenings

Let me start with a confession. Something I really need to get off my chest:

I hid the last banana yesterday because I wanted it for myself this morning. Sorry 'bout it family (but I'm not sorry).

Last night D and I had a reception to go to at the CG's (Commanding General) house. I should have taken a picture of the outside of the house...it is an old plantation home on post that has been maintained and is absolutely gorgeous. Every session of the Career Course, the CG hosts a cocktail hour for all the Captains and their spouses. You go through a receiving line, introduce yourselves and shake hands with him and his wife, and then mingle with everyone. The hour was wrapped up with a short speech and then we made our way home. One of my friends takes photos for events like this and I'll post some of her professional pics later, but here are a few of our own.

Grace, not missing us at all...haha

Today it's back to reality and the daily grind. Grace is dressed in her "Sporty Spice" outfit (no idea why we call it that), and after a piggy banking sesh, she made her way to daycare.

Investing early. What a smart cookie.

Putting coins in between her toes. Weirdo.
I'm currently teaching her to respond, "Daddy!", when asked "Who do we ask for money, Grace?" D really appreciates this...haha. Starting her early, right?

We're just making our way through the week. I have this to look forward to this afternoon:

I literally said FML out loud, while checking my phone before bed last night. D thought someone died. No babe...just looking forward to having my a** handed to me at Crossfit. Yay...

Check you tomorrow...if I can lift fingers to keyboard. ;)

Weekend Recap

We came stayed home, we weekended, we conquered.

Or something like that. Basically we made this weekend our biatch. It was busy, full of fun, and my favorite people.

On Saturday we got moving right after breakfast and made our way to Downtown Columbus to check out the farmer's market. We finally wised up and left the pups at home, so we were really able to take everything in without trying to corral two large, yellow labs through crowds of people. Grace was excited too. We didn't bother with a stroller and let her walk it out like a big girl...which slowed us down, but on a gorgeous morning with a light breeze, slow was wonderful.

We bought local blueberries and a chocolate chip cookie the size of Grace's face to share.

Next stop on our morning trip was to a Benjamin Moore paint retailer so momma could rob them of all their paint swatches. This was a highlight of my weekend. (You know you are getting old when...) It was glorious and I have already narrowed down my choices for several rooms in the new casa. Can't wait to start sharing all of those plans.

Post lunch/naptime (a nap we ALL took), we decided to get wild and hit the pool on post. As much as Grace loves the water, she also seriously enjoys snacking in the shade. My kinda girl right there.

We wrapped up the evening with dinner at the house and D and I got to sit outside, have a drink, and watch the dogs play post-G bedtime. Love nights like that.

On to Father's Day! I took one for the team and brought Grace downstairs and let D sleep in a little. I'm generous like that. When he did come down we had a yummy family breakfast (that he cooked, haha) and gave him some goodies. We like to get moving right away and Sunday's really cramp our style since nothing opens until later, so we hit the park, which was deserted because the rest of post was probably at church or Father's Day brunch. Oops. We let Major on the playground and he may or may not have gotten pushed down the slide.

We had family pictures done Sunday evening. My sweet hubby insisted I was ruining "his day" by making us do them, but he will thank me in years to come and has already decided that he likes the pictures we've seen. Mama knows best. Duh. It was rough trying to force a toddler to smile, so posed pictures were slim to none, but we got some pretty cute candids and a couple of Mommy and Daddy, too. Can't wait to share.

Hope you all had a fun, full weekend! We basically begin the moving process today with someone surveying our house to see how many packers need to be sent and how many hours they project it to take. I need to get organized...because let's just say we are two weeks out and it looks like we are not planning on going anywhere. Fun times. :)

Weekend To-Do's

Happy Friday! First things first...if you are a mom, going to be a mom or like good deal, go to Zulily and sign up. This is where I get Grace's crocs and this morning they are on sale again. Scored these:

Genna Mary Janes

I'm not a huge crocs fan in general, but on dirty toddler feet, they are super durable, easy to clean, and the mary janes are actually really cute.

In different news, I literally just realized that this will be our last weekend in Columbus before the move. Our walkthrough got pushed back to next weekend, we close the following, and then pack and move that same week. Life is about to get completely cray-cray for the next couple of weeks and you know us, we sort of thrive off of crazy, so it's exciting.

As for our last weekend here, we have a few things on the To Do list...
  • Weekly errands...Sam's Club, Groceries (I LOVE this.)
  • Checking out some paint colors for the new casa :) :) :)
  • Pool, park, playtime
  • Family Pictures...if our last minute change of plans works out
  • Madagascar 3!!! I want to see this and have been working to convince D for WEEKS that Grace can sit through it...so we shall see.
  • Spoiling our Daddy for Father's Day
It's looking like a full couple of days where we plan on taking advantage of being at home and embracing the calm before the storm. Althrough, my list doesn't make things look too calm, huh?

Hope you all have beautiful weekends!

Mornings

Mornings are a coin toss in our household...

Some are full of snuggles, and coffee, and giggles while watching Mickey Mouse and getting ready for the day.

Others are full of fussing, and coffee, and whining, and tantrums while watching Mickey Mouse and getting ready for the day.

Grace is not a morning person AT. ALL. This isn't to say that she sleeps in or anything- homegirl is up around 6:30 am like clockwork, she's just usually none too pleased about it. Even after afternoon naps it takes her a little time to get back into the swing of things and move on with her day.

This morning was a doozy. Honestly? Thank the sweet baby J for our daycare provider, who is probably having no problems whatsoever right now, because as soon as we head out the door apparently the light switch goes off and she's ready to take on the day. (At least that's what she has us believing...ha.)

Ugh. Fun times.

P.S. Does anyone have any suggestions for taming crazy toddler curls?! Leave in detangler? All I know is, poor girl has some crazy hair these days. :)

Catching up

Happy Monday!

I am back from the blogging dead...and a stomach virus that knocked me on my butt from last Thursday through basically this morning. No bueno. I don't even know where I left off or how to regroup, so kick up your feet, grab your ginger ale coffee, and let's do this.

  • We have an official move date. Our home will be getting packed up 3 weeks from today. We will be staying at the new casa as of July 3rd. Hold me.

  • Being sick, I obviously couldn't keep up with my Summer Running Streak...BUT, I'm super pumped to have registered for the Rock n Roll Savannah Half Marathon this November. I have some pretty lofty goals for this one and some stellar pals running it too. ;)

  • Grace has a new "trick" where she fakes tripping or falling, yells "OH!" and then looks around for a reaction. It's safe to say she gets one.

  • Not being able to eat or drink without sprinting to the bathroom equals me weighing 134 lbs. Instead of feeling skinny, I just feel weak and gross. I'd definitely rather be healthy and weigh more, than frail and queasy.

  • D and I have a social event next Tuesday and I have to find cocktail attire to wear. We haven't dressed up and gone out in forever, it will be a nice change of pace.

  • Father's Day is this weekend and I need to pull some ideas together. Anyone want to share their awesome Father's Day plans?

  • It's been pouring out for the past couple of days and I sort of love it. Especially this morning, on a slow Monday, where I can work at my desk, look out at it coming down, and be content to be stuck indoors for the rest of the day.

Hope you all are off to a great start this week.

Band-aid Buddies

Last Friday I came home from Crossfit with a nasty ripped callus on my hand and headed for the band-aids. I wrapped two so that they criss-cross around my middle finger and over the badge of badass-ness. (Which is probably not so bad ass when you put a sissy band-aid on...ha).

Grace was really interested and kept touching my "boo-boo" and playing with my hand. Then she held up her hand and told me that she had a boo-boo. I asked her if she wanted a band-aid too and she said yes...so we became band-aid buddies.

Now, 4 days later she still insists on having a band-aid on her hand. Mine has been off since Sunday, but she has had me reapply hers about 3 times. Silly girl. :)

Happy Friday!

I am so out of it blog-wise this week. I guess things are pretty quiet around here so there's not much to talk about. Here are some randoms for you about the little things going on:

  • Don't laugh, but I gave into the hype and read 50 Shades of Grey. And then Fifty Shades Darker. And then Fifty Shades Freed. In 3 days. Not great writing, kinda cheesy, but I couldn't put them down. Total lazy summer reads. (On that note...anyone want the books? I have 3 paperbacks I'd be happy to send someone's way.)
  • Last week I got my eyebrows threaded on a whim, and I couldn't be happier with the results. It took literally 3 minutes and I didn't have crazy post-waxing breakouts. They still look awesome over a week later. I hope I keep up with this.

  • Grace finally says please. It sounds like "PEASE" and it is the cutest thing I've ever heard. Especially when accompanied by more. "Moh pease!" Super cute. Now we just need to get her to say it without us prompting.

  • D is headed to Buckhead (right near Atlanta), to hang out with one of his good friends tomorrow night. Part of me hates being apart over the weekend because it's our family time, but the other part is looking forward to watching a chick flick, drinking wine, and having the bed all to myself. Sort of pumped.

  • Speaking of D (and he's going to kill me for saying this)- you know you're an old man when you decide you need a pair of man crocs to wear for "things around the house"...you know- taking the dogs outside, washing the car- man stuff. I bought him a pair as a joke and he LOVES them. I even let him wear them to Sam's Club last week. How generous of me, right? ;)

  • Paleo Challenge is over and I'm just back to eating clean (for the most part). I've definitely learned some things and made some small changes based on Paleo eating. I only do Almond Butter and Almond Milk now...honestly, I prefer the taste and it doesn't make my stomach hurt. We also really like Ezekial bread and that keeps me feeling great as well.  I lost 3 pounds and measurement changes were pretty minimal, the biggest difference was around my waist, which was a great indicator of how much food really affects your waistline. Ever hear the saying "Abs are made in the kitchen"? I completely agree.
Hope everyone has a great weekend. See ya next week!
