Domestic Bliss - Laundry Room Update

Here's no secret: I'm not a domestic goddess. I don't have a cleaning schedule and my laundry often goes through several "air fluff" cycles before I get around to folding it throwing it on my bed in a heap and getting around to it eventually.

Oddly enough, as much as I'm not a huge fan of chores, I couldn't wait to get my hands on our laundry room. It is situated in between the garage and our main floor and serves a dual purpose, as mudroom and a place where the dogs can hang out and not get into things while we are out as well as a place where laundry is done and extra linens are stored.

In just the 5 months we've lived here, it has already gotten used and abused. It's a high traffic area, and the walls were marked up with dirt from the dogs and then room had turned into a place that was not conducive for cleaning.

Hot mess.

After Pinteresting for months and coming up with a plan, I moved forward with getting beadboard installed and painting it in a white semi gloss. It should be easy to clean and make the small room seem a little bigger. Above the washer and dryer I got some basic cabinets from Lowes and had them put up to give us more storage and hide the mess. Finally, I painted above the bead board when my mom and brother were here for Thanksgiving in Wythe Blue, by Benjamin Moore. Here is how it looks today:

I am so pleased with how far it has come and now I can play with the decorative touches and hopefully be compelled to keep things clean. (Let's not get ahead of ourselves though.) I'm planning to add hooks to the right of the door and still playing with some other easy ideas. When I can finally call it "done", I'll be back with more pictures.

Now I'm off to finish my Family Room gallery wall, get a coffee table (it's been ordered!) and get serious about upstairs. I am SO glad I have had these projects to keep myself busy the past couple of months. It's been a blast.
