Anyway- back to the weekend! We left Thursday after work and hit the road for Richmond Hill, GA (where the new house is located). We got into our hotel around 9 and immediately crashed. We've been getting two queen sized beds, and G and I get to share. Lucky mommy. ;)
First thing on the agenda Friday was a tour of a potential daycare/school for Grace. We definitely got a good feeling about the place and are looking forward to getting her back into a more structured, learning environment. We got some lunch, stalked our house and then met up with the builder and a fence company to pick out our fence and then headed inside to choose our granite! We have a walkthrough in a couple of weeks and then close at the end of the month. Excited doesn't even cover it.
After a celebratory family ice cream date, we made the 20 minute trek to downtown Savannah and checked into the second hotel of the weekend. It had one massive king sized bed so we'd all be bunking family style...and actually it was far easier than the queen bed. After getting situated we were ready to head out and do some exploring. We hopped on a pedi cab and made our way to river street where we found outdoor vendors, a plethora of bars, shopping, and restaurants. We had an awesome seafood dinner and walked around before heading back to the hotel and calling it an early night. (This is what "vacations" with children entail. We've decided to start calling them "family trips", instead.)
Saturday was beach day. We woke, got some breakfast, and made our way to Tybee Island...another short 20 minute commute. This was either going to be a hit or miss with Grace, so we opted to just go for a few hours before lunch and set our expectations pretty low. Turns out she did pretty well and even threw a minor fit when it was time to go. No worries, she passed out in her carseat within 2 minutes of us leaving. The sun and sand does wonders. ;)
After a nap and lunch, we made our way down to the hotel pool for a little bit before it was time to shower up and get ready for dinner. We walked this time and made our way down to the restuarant area slowly, stopping in stores and checking things out. We decided on a little burger joint and it did not disappoint. After a sippy cup spiking incident left our sole sippy cracked (we're amateurs), D headed to find reinforcements and Grace and I made our way back towards the hotel. I saw a little coffee/wine bar that looked cute and we stopped in for treats. Wine for me, ice cream for G. It was just what the doctor ordered. I always forget that you can walk around with alcohol in Savannah, so when they offered a to go cup, I gladly accepted. (Thank you, Savannah.) We met back up with D and enjoyed another glass of wine out on the hotel's patio while the little one enjoyed some MMC on my iPod. We were all exhausted from the long day and it was the perfect way to wrap things up.
Rain was expected early on Sunday, but when we woke up and saw that the storm hadn't hit yet we were excited to play a little longer before getting on the road. A walk to breakfast and pool trip later we wrapped things up and started the drive home. I can't even tell you how ready I am to be living close enough to make beach trips a regular occurance...and date nights in Savannah. They will be happening at least once a month.
We were happy to get home Sunday afternoon and have Monday to recoup before the week got underway. I can't believe it is already mid week, but I'll take it...and try to post more regularly for the next few days. Hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and are having great week's!
xo,
H
