Moving on up...to the east (coast) sideeee

It is finally official:

We PCS to Fort Benning, GA mid-December. The 16th to be exact. :) I actually thought about not posting the date because I'm afraid of jinxing us, but it's looking like a GO right now.

This will be an interesting move, because we will only be there for about 6 months before it's on to the next duty station. D has what is called the Captain's Career Course to take and we are really looking forward to it. From what our friends who have taken the course have told us, the schedule is very nice and while he will be busy, it will be with things like studying and coursework rather than out for weeks at a time like he is now. I've even heard a rumor that every Tuesday he will get released at 2pm - a post wide policy that is in place with the purpose of giving everyone more family time. LOVE it.

So the point of my rambling is- December 2011 - July-ish 2012 we will be in Columbus, GA.

The Details-
  • Yes, I can keep my job and continue working from home full-time.
  • No, we won't know where we are living until we pull up to post in December and find out what housing options are available. (It's 6 months...we're just going to live on post.)
  • No, we don't know where we will end up come July next year.

So, yeah, a lot is up in the air. Makes me not even want to really unpack.

Our NEXT duty station will be where we should end up settling for about 3 years...more if we end up somewhere we like and depending on D's decision to stay in the Army or get out. We do have a little bit of a say as to where we will be going and based on our current assignment, it sounds like we should be cut a little slack. We definitely have a top choice and I am absolutely already jumping the gun and getting emails on houses in the area. Probably setting myself up to be let down...but the way I see it is this- we will know where we are heading by next Spring and I want to be prepared.

I know school districts, communities I prefer, and I may or may not have an entire pallet of paint colors picked out for our home if we end up buying. By room. I have pages upon pages of magazine cut outs, bookmarked websites, and paint chips laying around waiting to see if they will be used. I also order fabric swatches. You know, just in case I feel like I have to buy a King-sized duvet cover for the King sized bed we don't own yet...

Has anyone noticed how psycho-obsessive-organizational I have gotten lately? Unfortunately it hasn't applied to cleaning as much as I would like, but when it comes to family planning, meal planning, and researching home decor, I'm your girl.

So there ya go. I know I've alluded to this post for awhile...just waiting for some additional information before sharing. We are very excited and very ready to move forward to a new duty station. Should be another interesting year for the "M" family...we just don't know how to slow down over here. ;)

xo,
H

  3. Nope you're right on PCS haha...Got to love CCC and all the hurry up and wait it involves. :)

The only reason we are living OFF post at our CCC is because they were going to give us a 2-bedroom house, 800 sq. feet. NO THANKS. lol

  4. Excited for you!! And this seriously might make me have to try to get my butt in gear and head to GA for a double visit with you and my gal D. ;) But I'm not promising. You must text me where the "dream" duty station is...I think I have a feeling but don't want to put it out there. Additionally, what are D's thoughts on staying in vs getting out?

And girl, I totally flip thru my PB and West Elm catalogs and everything else ripping out inspiration pictures too, even just in our rental. But I've still got to convince my D just to help me paint the dang walls! ;) We've had permission for months now! MISS YA!

  5. PS Thank God it finally is letting me post---I've tried to comment on your others posts and bloggers had a glitch. So here ya go 1) I LOVE the chicken costume :) She'll want to be a pretty princess at some point in her girlhood, I promise. But I'd love to hear your other costume ideas too! 2) Maybe you should just flip a coin about baby 2 ;) There are 2 years between my eldest siblings, 5 years between #2 and #3, and 5.5 years between #3 and me. I still love all my siblings dearly and in some ways I didn't mind growing up almost solo--we all got to be our own individuals rather than grow up in someone else's shadow....but I definitely feel the wanting to be young and having the preggo, diapers, etc all close together. You'll know when it's right! Otherwise just start having mad unprotected sex and let Big Man decide ;) Haha!

  6. Awesome news that you have a date set, as I know you're a planner and this gives you something to look forward to! We'll love having y'all closer and I will definitely make a trip to GA for a visit.

By the way - I love that you have already guessed what everyone's next questions will be. Look at you, proactively responding! You must be getting use to the Army-wife thing! :)
