I love quick little weekend get-a-ways. We are usually super laid back and just hang out and relax, so mixing it up is always a fun little treat. D and I also figured that last weekend was probably going to be one of the last opportunities for us to go anywhere before the little (hmm...or big) lady arrives. I feel great and like I've said multiple times, I don't think she is going anywhere anytime soon, but our hospital actually requests that you get permission when traveling after 34 weeks and get a copy of your charts. If you head out of town and something happens without that go-ahead, our insurance isn't obligated to cover it.
*One of the positives about military life is that our insurance covers 100% of child birth. Literally everything. Even my prenatal vitamins are free....so don't say I never said anything nice about being married to the military. ;)
Anyways, we actually got a late start and decided to head out Saturday morning instead of Friday night. We got in town around mid-morning, dropped off our bags and decided to do a little exploring. First up, lunch...and I made it my business to find a Panera. Oh how I've missed it these last 8 months! After that we decided to head to the zoo. It was extremely hot and I felt a lot in common with the elephants that we saw...you know, big feet, just huge...but it was great to walk around and check things out. From there it was baby shopping time, we knew that there was a Pottery Barn Kids in the area so we tracked it down and used some of the gift cards that I had received at my shower to finish off Grace's bed set. She is now the proud owner of a bumper and crib skirt! It's crazy what what gets me excited these days.
We decided to head back to the apartment and relax for a little bit before dinner, and you know, shower so that we didn't smell like sweaty zoo keepers and then made our way back out. Get ready to take notes, because I am about to say something positive about the military again...
So we finish up our P.F. Chang's and are getting the bill when a manager comes up and says that our waiter noticed D's military ID when he was carding him for a drink and wanted to thank him for his service. (Aww...I love when people do this.) When she left we checked out our bill and not only had they given us a discount of $20, they included a gift card to the restaurant that covered the rest of our entire check. How incredibly thoughtful is that? They may have felt bad because I couldn't fit in my wedding ring so I probably looked like the local girl D had knocked up, but then again, it could have just been someone being really, really kind. I'll go with the second option because it makes me happy to think that there are people out there who do sweet things like that and I'm so proud of D that I love when other people recognize what a self sacrificing job he has.
To celebrate our good fortune we went to get ice cream...where it was "Happy Hour" and got 2 ginormo frozen yogurts for the price of one. We probably should have gotten a lottery ticket from there, but instead we met up with one of D's buddies who was in town with his girl friend at an Irish Pub where I got to drink water and play DD. Don't worry, we didn't stay long. Being pregnant is a great excuse to leave things early whenever you'd like. :)
I could go on about the next day, but honestly it would just be a list of all of the food I made us eat before leaving to drive back home and one of those listed would be Panera...again. When we got home Sunday evening we both were really motivated and did more to the baby's room and around the house. We'll be getting our guest bed this coming weekend and doing a couple more mini projects around the house, but we are on the home stretch. I'm feeling less anxious about being prepared for Grace's arrival every day and more excited to get her home with us!
Hope every one else had nice weekends as well!
xo,
H
